Preschool children banging their homemade drums and holding the tail of the dragon in our own version of a dragon parade! I love how happy they all look! They really got into it--except Lily--Lily chose not to participate :(

We are officially ready for our Chinese New Year party!

Chinese New Year

Two weeks ago, we went to a Chinese New Year celebration at Navy Pier in Chicago.

There was a Kung Fu demonstration (the boys LOVED that!)

but Lily--not so much...

There was a lion dance (which we actually missed, but got to see the lion head close-up anyway)

And of course, there were New Year crafts like mask-making and lantern making...

Best of all, there was glitter--lots and lots and LOTS of glitter. Glitter on our lanterns, glitter on our masks, glitter in our car and on our floor...the glitter will never go away...

We are going to celebrate at Navy Pier today. They have a cultural presentation with music, dancing, Kung Fu and more.

Year of the OX

We enjoyed having family over to celebrate the Year of the Ox! We had traditional food (as well as some not so traditional), played Chinese checkers, colored dragon masks and learned a little about the traditions of the Chinese New Year.

The girls were all pretty excited to wear their Chinese dresses. Unfortunately, since I can't seem to get the hang of my new camera, the best shot of the three of them doesn't really capture their dresses!

And Jack didn't want to be left out of the picture!
