54/365 More kitchen updates

(These are for you Denise!)

kitchen 1

When the kids first realized that the new kitchen would not be any bigger than it was before, they couldn't understand why in the world we would undertake a 4 month gut rehab of our old kitchen. To them the wallpaper-clad, gallery kitchen loaded with rotting wood cabinets and a leaky faucet from the 50s was beautiful. Slowly, they are beginning to enjoy our new kitchen.

It isn't any bigger--we still live in a 1950s, urban, brick Georgian house. But it sure is nice to have a dishwasher (after 2 years of hand-washing dishes), under cabinet lighting, a garbage disposal, etc.

Just can't wait until that range sitting in the middle of the kitchen is hooked up, we can take off the moving mats and enjoy our new cork floors and we can put our dishes into those nice big cabinets!

31/365

kitchen north

10 1/2 weeks.

10 1/2 weeks without a kitchen.

10 1/2 weeks of grilled, crock pot or microwaved food (blech).

10 1/2 weeks of washing dishes in the laundry tub.

10 1/2 weeks of dust...everywhere.

10 1/2 weeks of decisions--some fun, some difficult, some way to drawn out!

10 1/2 weeks of sharing our home with a bunch of men we don't really know.

10 1/2 weeks of waiting

10 1/2 weeks...

...is too long.

I'm ready for this project to be over... :(

The reason I haven't been blogging...

Joey ornament 2

First...we gutted our kitchen and I've spent most of my "extra" time sweeping, mopping and trying to make dinner without a stove. No, Christmas time is NOT a good time to rehab your kitchen, but it sure is a great gift to ourselves!

The night before everything came down, I let the kids draw all over the walls. Mostly, they just wrote notes to the contractor, who is starting to feel like part of the family....

Second, I got a new camera and I'm having quite a difficult time learning to use it! (It's another perfect gift though!)

Moving On...

After 10 years at our current address, it is time to move on. The commute to school, the need for more space, the desire to be closer to the kids' friends prompted us to "try" putting our house on the market in this slow, buyers' market. Much to our surprise, our little home sold in 30 days.

So, we say goodbye to our first home--the house to which we brought babies Joey, Sammy and Lily home. We say goodbye to the creaky wood stairs down which the kids would creep on Christmas morning to see what Santa had left.

We say goodbye to our front porch on which we would sit, greeting neighbors across the street, waiting for the kids to come out to play.

We say goodbye to our bright kitchen/dining room--if a room could smile, this room had a bright one!The kids have been troopers, helping to prepare for the move:

Goodbye Drake house! We will miss you terribly!
